Jordan’s Best Travel Season Has Just Begun

For many travelers, the end of summer usually means cooler days, shorter evenings, and the beginning of autumn. In Jordan, however, it means something different: the start of one of the best travel seasons of the year.

From September until May, Jordan offers some of the most comfortable conditions for exploring the country. The summer heat begins to disappear, the days become cooler, and outdoor activities become much more enjoyable.

For travelers coming from Europe, this is the perfect time to discover Jordan beyond the traditional sightseeing route.

Cooler Weather, Better Experiences

Jordan can be very hot during the summer, especially when you are walking for hours through Petra, exploring the desert, or spending a full day outdoors.

From September onwards, the temperatures start to become much more comfortable. You can walk through archaeological sites, explore local villages, spend time in the desert, or enjoy a long day outside without the heavy summer heat.

This is especially important for travelers who want to experience Jordan actively rather than only moving from one attraction to another by vehicle.

The Perfect Season for Hiking and Cycling

Autumn and spring are among the best periods for hiking and cycling in Jordan.

Jordan has an incredible variety of landscapes within a relatively small country. You can cycle through the countryside around Madaba, ride down towards the Dead Sea, cross mountain roads near Shobak, or explore the dramatic desert scenery around Wadi Rum.

For hikers, places such as Dana, Petra, the Jordan Trail, Wadi Rum and many of Jordan’s valleys become much more enjoyable when the weather is cooler.

You do not need to be an experienced athlete either. Jordan offers everything from easy walks and family-friendly outdoor activities to longer hiking routes and challenging cycling journeys.

A Great Destination for Families Too

The cooler season is also ideal for families.

Children and parents can enjoy activities such as easy hikes, cycling, jeep tours in Wadi Rum, nature walks, desert experiences and outdoor lunches without dealing with extreme temperatures.

It becomes much easier to combine Jordan’s famous cultural sites with something active and fun.

A family trip can include Petra, Jerash and Amman, while also adding a short cycling experience, a walk through nature, or a night under the stars in Wadi Rum.

That combination of history, adventure and family experiences is one of the things that makes Jordan so special.

What About January?

January is usually the coldest month in Jordan, especially in Amman, Petra and the higher mountain areas.

There can be rain, cold evenings and sometimes even snow in certain parts of the country. For travelers mainly interested in hiking and cycling, January may not be the first choice.

That is why the strongest outdoor periods are usually September to December and then again February to May.

Of course, Jordan has very different climates depending on where you are. While Amman and Petra can be cold in winter, Aqaba and the Dead Sea are often much warmer.

Autumn or Spring?

Both are beautiful, but each season feels a little different.

From September to November, the country is coming out of summer. The days are still warm, but the temperatures are much more pleasant, especially in the mornings and evenings.

From March to May, Jordan becomes greener in many areas, and spring brings another side of the country that many visitors do not expect. The landscapes can be full of seasonal flowers, the weather is comfortable, and it is an excellent time for hiking, cycling and exploring the countryside.

A Perfect Escape from Europe

For travelers looking for a break from colder weather, Jordan is close enough for a relatively short flight but different enough to feel like a completely new world.

Within one trip, you can walk through Roman ruins, explore Petra, hike through mountains, cycle through local villages, float in the Dead Sea and spend the night surrounded by the silence of Wadi Rum.

And during the cooler months, you can enjoy all of these experiences at a much more comfortable pace.

Jordan’s outdoor season has just begun.

From September until May, the country becomes one of the best destinations in the region for travelers looking for culture, nature, adventure and comfortable weather.
