At Ashtar Tours Jordan, we are always seeking new and exciting experiences to offer our travelers. Our latest adventure led us to the charming city of Al Salt, where we explored a vibrant mix of culture, history, and creativity. This fam trip was a perfect opportunity to discover new activities, local artisans, and products that will enhance our travel offerings. Here’s an inside look at our unforgettable day in Al Salt.

The Holy Land Institute for the Deaf

We kicked off our journey with a visit to The Holy Land Institute for the Deaf, an incredible institution that helps empower deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deafblind children and adults. The institute provides them with the tools to participate meaningfully in their communities and make valuable contributions to society.

Our tour included a visit to the vocational school, where we witnessed the dedication of students and graduates who produce high-quality handcrafted products. We were particularly moved by the impact of the institute and couldn’t leave without purchasing a few souvenirs from their shop, each item a beautiful reminder of the students’ talents.

Breakfast at City Balcony Restaurant

Next, we visited City Balcony Restaurant, located in the heart of Al Salt’s historic city center. The restaurant, set in a heritage house that had been abandoned for years, beautifully combines the preservation of cultural heritage with modern-day vibrancy.

We enjoyed a traditional Jordanian breakfast, featuring locally sourced ingredients and diverse dishes. The experience wasn’t just about the food but also included a tour of the cozy bed and breakfast service. We were also treated to a cultural activity showcasing a traditional Salti wedding, a deep dive into the region’s customs and local traditions.

Our next stop was the Salt Grand Mosque, a stunning place of worship that speaks to the harmony of Salt’s diverse community. We took a moment to learn about the mosque’s architecture, the significance of its prayer traditions, and how Salt’s citizens live together in peace and unity. The peaceful atmosphere was the perfect segue into our next adventure.

Skafieh Stairs to Abu Jaber Museum

We then set out for a short walk to Abu Jaber Museum, following the winding Skafieh Stairs, which connect Souk Skafieh (the shoemaker market) to Al Khader Street and Al Hammam Street. This charming route brought us closer to the essence of Salt as we passed through its lively souks and heritage sites.

The Abu Jaber Museum, housed in a beautiful mansion dating back to the late 19th century, takes visitors on a journey through the city’s golden age. The museum is a rich display of Salt’s history, culture, and prosperity. We also visited Dukan Al Salt, a treasure trove of handcrafted goods made by over 70 local women artisans. Each item embodies Salt’s cultural heritage, showcasing traditional skills blended with modern innovation.

Latin Church and St. George Church

A visit to Al Salt Catholic Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was next on our itinerary. This historic church, built in 1886, is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of the city’s long-standing multicultural legacy. The church is part of Salt’s vibrant religious and cultural fabric.

Afterward, we visited St. George (Al Khader) Church, one of the oldest churches in the region. Located in a cave believed to be the site of a miraculous apparition of Saint George, the church holds deep spiritual significance for both locals and visitors alike.

Jordan Heritage Madhafa

We continued our exploration with a visit to the Jordan Heritage Madhafa, a beautifully restored 200-year-old building that provides a glimpse into the traditional Jordanian way of life. This comfortable accommodation blends modern amenities with the charm of old-world heritage. Its location, just steps from Salt’s traditional markets and revered religious sites, makes it the perfect place to stay for anyone wanting to fully immerse themselves in the city’s cultural landscape.

Saltus Pottery Workshop

A visit to Saltus Pottery Studio offered us an immersive hands-on experience in the art of pottery making. We learned about the intricate process involved in crafting pottery, and were able to try our hands at creating our own pieces under the guidance of skilled artisans. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with Salt’s local artistic traditions.

Al-Adham & Sukhtian Guest House

Lunch was served at the Beit Al-Adham Guest House, where we savored a delicious homemade meal of traditional Jordanian cuisine. The welcoming owners of the guest house shared the history of their home and offered us a chance to play Mangaleh, a traditional Jordanian game. It was a fun, interactive experience that gave us deeper insight into local culture and the warmth of Jordanian hospitality.

Creative Inspiration: LIVINC

We concluded our day at LIVINC, a creative space located in Zay, just outside Salt. This serene retreat fosters creativity and personal growth, offering a balance between relaxation and inspiration. LIVINC hosts a variety of workshops and events, providing a peaceful atmosphere for wellness and creative experiences. It was the perfect spot to reflect on our day and find new inspiration for future projects.

Our trip to Al Salt was a beautiful reminder of the city’s potential as a top-tier destination for travelers seeking authentic cultural experiences, historical exploration, and artistic immersion. The combination of Salt’s rich history, unique local products, and welcoming community makes it a must-visit location in Jordan.

We’re excited to include these activities in our future itineraries and offer travelers the opportunity to experience Al Salt’s charm firsthand. Stay tuned as Ashtar Tours Jordan continues to explore new destinations and craft unforgettable travel experiences.
