Ashtar Tours team had the privilege of participating in the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) training program, an intensive three-day workshop that brought together leaders and professionals from across the tourism sector. The program was expertly led by Mr. Nabil Tarazi, a seasoned expert with 17 years of experience in Ecotourism, Sustainable Travel, and Adventure Travel, and Mrs. Lina AlKhalid, a distinguished authority in Tourism Strategy, Development, and Marketing.
The program delved into essential topics that are at the heart of sustainable tourism practices, starting with an introduction to the GSTC and its comprehensive programs. We explored the GSTC Industry Criteria, which sets the global standards for sustainable tourism businesses, and the GSTC Destination Criteria, which focuses on creating sustainable destinations that benefit both travelers and local communities.
One of the highlights of the program was the series of group discussions, which provided an excellent platform for participants to share insights and experiences.

Sustainability Management Systems: We examined how to implement and maintain effective systems that support long-term sustainability in tourism operations.
Social and Economic Benefits and Impacts: This discussion focused on how tourism can contribute positively to local economies while ensuring that social benefits are equitably distributed.
Cultural Heritage Benefits and Impacts: We explored ways to preserve and promote cultural heritage through responsible tourism practices.
Environmental Benefits and Impacts: This session was dedicated to understanding how tourism can minimize its environmental footprint and contribute to conservation efforts.
Sustainable Management: A comprehensive look at the strategies needed to manage tourism businesses sustainably, ensuring that all aspects of operations align with the principles of sustainability.
These discussions were not only enlightening but also crucial in shaping our understanding and commitment to sustainable tourism. The knowledge we gained from this program is invaluable as we move forward in our journey to becoming a certified sustainable tour operator in Jordan.
At the conclusion of the program, our team was proud to receive certificates of completion, recognizing our participation in the GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Program (STTP). This achievement marks an important step in our ongoing commitment to sustainability, and we are excited to implement what we’ve learned as we continue to offer extraordinary travel experiences that respect and protect our planet and its people.
